Fall 2020 CS373 — Week 2

What did you do this past week?

This week I attended class, and worked on Collatz. I got a lot of it done, which is good since my other classes also released their first projects. It’s nice to not have to worry about juggling this project along with everything else.

What’s in your way?

There’s not much in my way right now. I’m completely lost in neural networks, which is another class that I’m taking, but I think I can catch on once I review a little bit. The semester is already hitting pretty hard, but I’m happy to be settling back into a routine.

What will you do next week?

I’ll continue to attend class and try to do better on the quizzes. I’ll also finish submitting Collatz, and take some time to focus more on my other classes.

What was your experience of assertions, unit tests, and coverage?

I remember learning about these things in object oriented programming last year, so it’s been a lot of review during lecture so far. I’ve also used these concepts a lot in the past.

How are you doing and holding up? What’s been most helpful for you in terms of support at this time?

I’m actually doing really well right now! It’s nice to be back in Austin and to (safely) hang out with some of my friends again. I have a heavy course load this semester, but it seems a lot more manageable than it has been in past semesters because so much of it is online. I’ve gotten better at sitting through online lectures, and its nice to be able to take breaks between classes at home. I’m also taking an improv class for fun, which meets in person. It’s been really helpful to have somewhere to go a few times a week.

What made you happy this week?

I bought a dining table off of Facebook Marketplace and the people threw in a really nice coffee table and end table for free, so that was a nice surprise! My living room looks pretty awesome now.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Noise cancelling headphones are a game changer. I was never really into them before and was totally happy with regular earbuds, but I purchased some this summer for my online internship and absolutley love them. They make it a lot easier to focus on classes and studying, and music sounds 100x better.
