CS373: Week 4

What did you do this past week?

This week I attended lecture, found a group to work with, and finished up a lot of assignments for my other classes!

What’s in your way?

I’m starting to fall behind on the readings for my other classes, and it’s getting a bit overwhelming trying to juggle it all. But I’m just taking it a day at a time, trying to stay organized, and continuing to prioritize tasks as they come up.

What will you do next week?

Next week I plan on reaching out to my group to brainstorm some ideas, and maybe get started on the project. I also plan on catching up in other classes so that the following week can be a fresh start.

What was your experience of exceptions, IDB1, and types?

Exceptions were cool to learn about, I knew what they were before but wasn’t super aware of all of the intricacies involved. Types were mostly just a review since I was already pretty familiar with Python. IDB1 seems like it will be a very fun and doable project — I have some skills in web development but have a lot to learn, and this will be a great opportunity to do so.

What made you happy this week?

I got a full time offer with the company I interned for last summer! It really took a lot of the job hunt stress off of my shoulders, and now I’m ready to tackle my senior year of college and get ready for the next chapter of my life.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

I use Sublime Text for literally everything school related, and have generally been pretty resistant to change with it. But this week, I finally gave VSCode another try because my network security project involved using a pre existing code base, and I needed to be able to jump around and find class definitions easily. VSCode allowed me to do so whereas Sublime did not. I’m probably not a complete convert yet, but I think it’s important to constantly be trying out other tools and technologies. Sometimes something as simple as switching IDEs can make things so much easier.
